SHAPE & PLACING
TREEIB® CITY, a rectangle shape measuring 1,05 m x 2 m / 3,4 ft x 6,7 ft, is big enough to deliver significant amount of irrigation liquid yet it is small enough to water a tree ANYWHERE. Ensuring an easy and flexible placement, on any site, and the possibility to combine several bags on site, is a winning combination for trees situated in sidewalks or supermarket parking lots.
TREEIB® CITY is a large, heavy duty, irrigation bag designed specially for large and mature trees, with a maximum watering volume of 430 liters / 114 US gal of water.
It is designed in a rectangle shape; it is smaller than the TREEIB® 1500 and thus more convenient on sites, where flexibility in installation is needed. Although it is not problem to use it on grassy surfaces, TREEIB® CITY is excellent, when it comes to paving, and other paved permeable surfaces.
TREEIB® CITY is the first and only solution, that allows trees in sidewalks to be watered properly.
PLACING &
DECONTAMINATION
TREEIB® CITY releases water even on paved surfaces!
The water soaks through the surface completely; no evaporation, no run off, which makes this bag a game changer. We strongly recommend placing the bags on the canopy dripline or beyond it.
Soil decontamination is the exception to the rule, when it comes to watering at the recommended irrigation zone.
When there is a high probability that the soil is contaminated with dog urine or road maintenance salt, there is only one way to decontaminate the soil - by soaking it with plenty of water. This is the specialty of TREEIB® CITY. By placing 3 bags in a U-shape or 4 bags placed in a square shape, close to the tree trunk, filled to the brim, they'll ensure that the contaminants will percolate away from the root space.
FILLING CYLINDER
A 40cm-tall filling-cylinder is joined to the bag opening (15 cm / 5,9 inch in diameter, so it can be filled with a fire hose), is equipped with a side squeeze plastic clip with D rings. It helps to hold the water-source hose and the cylinder makes it possible to fill the bag to maximum capacity even on uneven surfaces or slopes.
Water can be filled up to 20 cm below the top of the cylinder. When the bag is full the cylinder is rolled up into position, the clip is fastened shut and the D rings could be locked by a locking mechanism, e.g. a padlock with a shock alarm, as described on the Safety page.
FILLING
The bag can be filled either from a hydrant, a professional water tanker, a fire truck or a garden hose.
The time it takes to fill, depends on the output of the water source. While a professional water tanker can fill up TREEIB® CITY in two minutes, filling it with a 1/2" garden hose takes about 20 minutes. The clip on the filling cylinder is designed for this situation - Insert the garden hose as deeply as possible into the bag, fold down the cylinder and fasten the clip. The hose will then be fixed into position, which ensures that it can be left well alone, until the bag is filled.
The bag can also be filled with less than 430 liters of water, it will work perfectly like this. Just keep in mind that the water release time will be less.
RELEASING WATER
Water is released via 12 release openings, openings, which are distributed evenly over the bottom area of the bag.
The time of the water release depends on the surface under the bag. The standard time for water release on paved surfaces is 20-22 hours, the time on turf is 8-9 hours.
In places where the surface is rough or uneven (like crushed stone of a large diameter), the water release time can be shorter. In places where the surface is smoother, such as sawn stone paving with narrow joints, the release time would typically be longer.
EYELETS
TREEIB® City is designed as a flexible solution for places where it is not possible to place a classic TREEIB® 1500. These are expected to be places that are public, and/or are also places close to roads. These are locations where the bag must not be moved, there is a risk of being stolen or blown away by the wind on the street, which could cause an accident. Thus the anchoring eyelets are welded at the edges as an optional safety component.
They can be used for threading plastic, aramid or steel rope, which can be locked around a tree trunk. It is also possible to use a clothesline with a steel core...
Always use at least two openings at once to distribute any pressure.
Take extra care to avoid damaging the trunk or surface roots. Make sure that the ends of the ropes are not sharp.
